Adjust the sensor sensitivity of the TSP700II and TSP800II printers

Introduction:

This application note explains how to adjust the sensor sensitivity of the TSP700II and TSP800II printers. The sensitivity of the sensor is calibrated at the factory, so sensor adjustment is not necessary under ordinary conditions. However, you may need to make adjustments when using non-recommended paper or when the surrounding environment prevents the sensor from working properly.

Paper End and Black Mark Sensor Adjustment

Make sure the printer is turned OFF

Remove the screw from the DIP Switch cover.

 

Use the tip of a ballpoint pen or a similar tool to set the DIP switches as follows:

 

DIP SW1-4 OFF, DIP SW1-5 ON, DIP SW1-6 ON, DIP SW1-7 ON.

Set the paper roll and set the printer to the “paper present” state.

 

Turn the printer ON.

NOTE: The lamps on the control panel will flash and the printer will enter sensor adjustment mode

 

Using a small slot screwdriver, turn VR3 as shown below, and adjust it so that the POWER LED and ERROR LED light up.

Turn the printer power OFF, and restore the following DIP switches to their original settings:

DIP SW1-4, DIP SW1-5, DIP SW1-6, DIP SW1-7.

 

Check the operation. If the black mark id not detected correctly, adjust the black mark sensor according to the procedure below:

 

Make sure the printer is turned OFF

 

Remove the screw from the DIP Switch cover on the bottom of the printer.

 

Set the paper roll, and set the printer to “paper present” state

 

Turn the printer ON

 

The lamps on the control panel will flash, and the printer will enter sensor adjustment mode.

 

Using a small screwdriver, turn VR3 counterclockwise as far as it will go.

 

The POWER LED and ERROR LED on the control panel will not light up.

Using a small slot screwdriver, turn VR3 clockwise and then adjust it so that the POWER LED on the control panel does NOT light up but the ERROR LED lights up.

Turn the printer OFF, and restore the following DIP switches back to their original settings:

DIP SW1-4, DIP SW1-5, DIP SW1-6 and DIP SW1-7.

 

Check the operation. Check that the black mark is detected correctly.

 

Near End Sensor Adjustment

NOTE: If used in a vertical position (wall-mounted), the near end sensor must be set separately using StarPRNT Intelligence.

 

If you’re using the TSP700II in a vertical position (wall-mounted), perform < Vertical Layout >.

 

Make sure that the printer is turned OFF.

 

Remove the screw from the DIP switch cover on the bottom of the printer. Take off the DIP switch cover.

 

Using the tip of a ballpoint pen or similar tool, set the DIP switches as follows:

DIP SW1-4 OFF, DIP SW1-5 ON, DIP SW1-6 ON and DIP SW1-7 ON.

Remove the paper roll paper and set the paper to the “paper absent” state.

 

<Standard>

Turn the printer ON.

The lamps on the control panel will flash, and the printer will enter the sensor adjustment mode.

 

<Vertical Layout>

While pressing the FEED button, turn the printer ON.

The lamps on the control panel will flash, and the printer will enter the sensor adjustment mode.

 

<Standard>

Use the small slot screwdriver to turn VR2 clockwise as far as it will go.

If the POWER LED lights, skip ahead >

If the POWER LED does not light, skip ahead >

Use the small slot screwdriver to turn VR1 clockwise as far as it will go.

Turn VR2 so that both the POWER LED and ERROR LED light up.

Turn VR1 so that both the POWER LED and ERRO LED light up.

Turn the printer OFF and restore the following DIP switches to their original settings:

DIP SW1-4, DIP SW1-5, DIP SW1-6 and DIP SW1-7.

 

Check the operation. Check that the near end sensor operates properly
