Enabling Multi Session on the IFBD-HE07/08 Ethernet Card

You are here:

Introduction

This application note shows how to enable Multi Session on IFBD-HE07/08 ethernet cards. This documentation covers enabling this setting by browser and command prompt, so choose the method most comfortable.

Supported Printers: TSP650II, TSP650, TSP700II, TSP800II, TUP500, SP500, SP700, HSP7000, FVP-10, TSP1000

Supported Interfaces: Ethernet (IFBD-HE07/08 Card)

When Is Multi Session Needed?

Enable Multi Session to ensure compatibility when replacing older Star ethernet printers. The old ethernet interface card IFBD-HE05/06 was set to Multi Session by default. The latest version, IFBD-HE07/08, is set to single session by default.

Some application written for the IFBD-HE05/06 model may still require Multi Session to be enabled.

Prior to the release of the StarPRNT Intelligence driver version 1.1a, the OPOS Utility required Multi Session. If the OPOS Utility of a version older than StarPRNT 1.1a is in use, it is recommended to switch the printer back to Multi Session to ensure compatibility.

Enabling Multi Session by Browser

At this time, the printer should have already been assigned an IP Address. It should be powered on and connected to the same network as the PC.

Open any web browser and type the printer’s IP Address in the address bar. Then, click “Login” in the left menu bar.

Log in. The factory settings for the IFBD-HE07/08 card is:

Username: root

Password: public

NOTE: These credentials can be changed in the browser tool after logging in if desired.

Click “System Configuration”.

Set #9100 Multi Session to “Enable”. Then click “Submit”.

This page confirms the information set. Click “Save” in the left menu bar.

Select “Save -> Configuration printing -> Restart device” and then click “Execute”.

It will take about ten seconds for the printer to restart with the new configuration settings. At this point, close the browser window.

Print a self-test to confirm the change.

Congratulations! You have successfully enabled Multi Session using a browser.

Enabling Multi Session by Command Prompt

Open the Command Prompt.

Type “telnet” and the printer’s IP Address after.

Username: root

Password: public

NOTE: These credentials can be changed in the menu after logging in if desired.

Enter 2 for System Configuration.

The settings are sent directly to the printer. Connection to the host is lost as the printer resets itself automatically. A test print is printed showing all the ethernet card settings and confirming Multi Session has been enabled.

Close the Command Prompt. Print a self-test to confirm the change.

Congratulations! You have successfully enabled Multi Session using the Command Prompt.
