How to Assign a Static IP Address to an Ethernet or Wi-Fi Printer

Introduction

This application note provides instructions for assigning a Static IP Address on a Star Ethernet (LAN) or Wi-Fi printer using the printer’s web interface (Web UI).

Supported Printers: mC-Label Series, mC-Print Series, SP700, TSP100III, TSP100IV, TSP650II, TSP700II, TSP800II
Supported Interfaces: Ethernet (LAN), Wi-Fi
Supported Environments: Any browser

Before you begin

Important! Ensure both the device (PC/tablet/smartphone) and printer are connected to the same network.

Important! Print a self-test and take note of the printer’s IP Address. Use the application note below to print a self-test.
How to Perform a Hardware Self-Test on Star Printers

Important! If your printer is a TSP650II, TSP700II, TSP800II or SP700 also take note of its Interface Model (IFBD) model as the steps may vary.

The IP Address can be found at the bottom of the self-test receipt under Current IP Parameters Status or Ethernet Network.

The IFBD model is listed at the top of the Network Configuration page, if applicable.

mC-Label, mC-Print, TSP100III and TSP100IV

1. Perform a self-test to identify the printer’s IP Address.

2. Open a browser on any device, enter the printer’s IP Address in the browser address bar and click “Login” on the Network Utility Page.

3. Log in with the following credentials and click “Sign in”:

Username: root
Password: public

Note: It is recommended to change these credentials for increased security. If you do, take note and safeguard the new credential for future web UI access. If the above credentials are not accepted, the network interface requires a reset. Use the article below to do so:

4. Click “IP Parameters”.

5. Select “Static”, enter the [Static IP Address], [Subnet Mask] and [Default Gate], and click “Submit”

Note: In most cases, it is best to use the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway already assigned to the printer by the printer shown on the self-test.

6. Confirm the information entered and click “Save”.

7. Select “Save -> Configuration Printing -> Restart device” and click “Execute”.

8. A new page will appear confirming the changes were successful, close the browser while the printer reboots.

9. It will only take a few seconds to complete the setup. The printer will continue to flash until the setup is complete and will then print off a confirmation page. Look for the section on the receipt labeled Current IP Parameters Status, which now provides your newly assigned Static IP Address.

Congratulations! You have configured your Star Ethernet (LAN) or Wi-Fi printer with a Static IP Address.

Printers with IFBD-HE07/08 Interface

1. Perform a self-test to identify the IFBD model and the printer’s IP Address.

2. Open a Browser on any device, enter the printer’s IP Address in the browser address bar and click “Login” on the Network Utility Page.

3. Log in with the following credentials and click “Sign in”:

Username: root
Password: public
