How To Configure Margins and Paper Size on Web Browsers

This application note explains how to configure a web-browser to print to a Star printer from most web-based applications.

Supported Printers: Star Desktop Printers
Supported Interfaces: All
Supported Environments: Windows 11 (32/64-bit), Windows 10 (32/64-bit), Windows 8.1 (32/64-bit), Windows 8.0 (32/64-bit), Windows 7 (32/64-bit), MacOS

Before you begin

Important: Bluetooth, LAN and Wi-Fi printers must already be set-up. If the printer is network based (LAN or Wi-Fi) ensure your device (tablet or smartphone) is connected to your network. When testing a network-based printer, ensure the iOS/Android device is connected to the Wi-Fi network.

Important: The default Paper Size for most printers is 3” (72mm). If you are selecting a smaller size, ensure you have installed the paper guide in the printer. Please visit the Star Global Support Site to download the manual for your specific printer which provides more details on installing a paper guide.

NOTE: While these instructions were written using the TSP100IIIW printer as an example, this document applies to all models indicated above.

 

Setup for Google Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click the three dots in the upper right of the browser and select “Print”.

3. Ensure your Star printer has been selected and click “More Settings”.

4. Change the following:

Paper size: 72mm x Receipt
Margins: None
Headers and footers: Unchecked (if visible)

5. Perform a test print from your POS application. If the settings are still not to your liking, please contact your POS to receive assistance with configuring your receipts.

Congratulations! You successfully configured your Star Desktop printer for use on Google Chrome.

 

Setup for Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
  2. Click the three dots in the upper right of the browser and select “Print”.

3. Ensure your Star printer has been selected.

4. Click “More settings” and change the following:

Paper size: 72mm x Receipt
Margins: None
Headers and footers: Off (if visible)

5. Perform a test print from your POS application. If the settings are still not to your liking, please contact your POS to receive assistance with configuring your receipts.

Congratulations! You successfully configured your Star Desktop printer for use on Microsoft Edge.

 

Setup for Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Click on the three lines in the upper right of the browser and select “Print”.

3. Ensure your Star printer has been selected and click “More Settings”.

4. Change the following:

Paper size: 72mm x Receipt
Margins: None
Print headers and footers: Uncheck

5. Perform a test print from your POS application. If the settings are still not to your liking, please contact your POS to receive assistance with configuring your receipts.

Congratulations! You successfully configured your Star Desktop printer for use on Mozilla Firefox.

 

Setup for Internet Explorer

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Press alt to open the taskbar at the top. Click “File” and select “Page Setup”.

3. Change the following then click “OK”:

Paper size: 72mm x Receipt.
Left Margin: 0
Right Margin: 0
Headers and Footers: Empty

4. Perform a test print from your POS application. If the settings are still not to your liking, please contact your POS to receive assistance with configuring your receipts.

Congratulations! You successfully configured your Star Desktop printer for use on Internet Explorer.

 

Setup for Apple Safari

  1. Open Safari
  2. Click “File” in the top taskbar and select “Print”.

3. Ensure your Star printer has been selected and click “Show Details”.

4. Open the Presets dropdown menu and select “Save Current Settings as Preset”. Give it a name and click “OK”.

5. Change the following:

Paper Size: 72mm x Receipt
Print headers and footers: Uncheck

6. Perform a test print from your POS application. If the settings are still not to your liking, please contact your POS to receive assistance with configuring your receipts.

Congratulations! You successfully configured your Star Desktop printer for use on Safari.
