How to Connect a TSP100IIIW Printer to a Wi-Fi Network (Without WPS)

Introduction

This application note provides instructions for manually connecting a TSP100IIIW printer to a Wi-Fi network when WPS is unavailable or cannot be used.

Before you begin

These steps are intended for the initial setup of the printer or after the printer has been reset to factory settings.

Before continuing, make sure you have:

A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. The TSP100IIIW cannot connect to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Your Wi-Fi network SSID (network name) and Security Key (password).
A self-test from the printer. The self-test provides the MAC address and IP address needed during setup.

On the self-test, locate the following information:

MAC Address: Located under Network Configuration at the top of the self-test.
IP Address: Located under Current IP Parameters at the bottom of the self-test. During initial setup, the temporary IP address is 192.168.10.1.

The printer’s Wi-Fi network (SSID) is TSP100III-XXXXXX, where XXXXXX represents the last six digits of the printer’s MAC address.

Connect TSP100IIIW Manually

1. Open the Wi-Fi settings on a PC/tablet/phone and connect to the printer’s broadcasted network.

Windows Example

On a Windows device, Wi-Fi settings can be found in the bottom right corner of the taskbar.

Note: It will take some time (about 1 minute) until connection is confirmed. It is also normal for it to read “No Internet”.

iOS/Android Example

On an iOS or Android device, Wi-Fi can be found in Settings > Wi-Fi

2. Open a browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Safari) and type the printer’s IP Address (192.168.10.1) into the address bar and the Web Configuration page will appear.

3. Click “Login”.

4. Log in with the following credentials and click “Sign in”.

Username: root
Password: public

5. Click “WLAN Settings”.

6. Select “Infrastructure” and enter the network details (indicated below) then click “Submit“:

SSID: Your Wi-Fi name (case sensitive)
Security Type: AUTO if available – WPA2/AES if not
Security Key: Your Wi-Fi password (case sensitive)

Note: The printer requires the network to be configured with WPA2/AES as the security type.

7. Confirm the information entered and click “Save”.

8. Select “Save -> Configuration Printing -> Restart device” and click “Execute”.

9. Close the browser when the completion message displays. The printer will reboot, the blue ready LED will begin flashing and the first part of the configuration page will print.
Note: Do not power the printer OFF nor remove the partially printed configuration page until after setup is complete.

10. Setup may take a few minutes to complete. Once complete, the ready LED will turn solid blue and the rest of the network configuration page will print. The updated Current IP Parameters Status section indicates the printer’s new IP Address.

Congratulations! You have successfully connected the TSP100IIIW to a network using the manual method.

Troubleshoot a TSP100IIIW that is not Connecting to Wi-Fi

Double-check the network configuration page that is printed at the end of the setup. At the top of the receipt confirm the following:

Network Mode is set to Infrastructure
The SSID is set to the correct Wi-Fi name and that the name matches the broadcasted network name (i.e. capitalizations, spaces, etc.)
The Wi-Fi password is correct
The Security Type is set to either AUTO or WPA2/AES
Ensure the network the printer is being assigned to is a 2.4 GHz band, the printer is unable to connect to a 5 GHz only network
- Most networks are dual-banded meaning the Wi-Fi connection is both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
- If you are unsure if your network is 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, contact your internet provider to inquire with them directly
- In some rare cases it may be necessary to split a dual band network
