How to Install the Star MG-S Scales OPOS Driver

Introduction

This application note explains how to install the Windows OPOS Driver for the Star MG-S Scales.

 

Supported Models: MG-S322, MG-S1501, MG-S8200

Supported Interfaces: Serial, USB

Supported Environments: This software supports the following operating systems:

・Windows 10* 32bit and 64bit (except Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 IoT)

・Windows 8.1* 32bit and 64bit (except Windows RT 8.1)

・Windows 8* 32bit and 64bit (except Windows RT)

・Windows 7 32bit and 64bit

* Limitation for Windows 10/8.1/8

– Desktop UI only

 

Installation

NOTES: – Connect MG-S Scale ONLY after Installation is completed.

– Administrator privilege is required to run installation.

  1. Download the scale driver (MG-S Scale OPOS Driver) from the Global Support Website
  2. Decompress the downloaded file, right click “setup.exe” an run as an administrator

 

Click Next

 

Select the installation folder and click Next

 

Click Next to begin the installation.

 

After installation is completed, click Close to exit installation.

 

Connect the MG-S Scale to the PC and power the scale ON.

 

OPOS Device Registration

After installing the driver, the scale must be registered as an OPOS device with the Scale Register utility

  1. From the Windows Start menu, open [Programs] [Star Micronics] [Scale Register]

 

The following windows should appear:

 

In order to register the scale, ensure the Common Control Object (CCO) box is selected

Select the corresponding Scale model and interface (USB or Serial)

Click “[Reg ->]” and “[Exit]” to complete the selection

NOTE: The model name is displayed when the scale is powered ON

 

If successful, the window shown below will appear.

After checking Health, click [OK] to register. 

 

When registration is complete, the device name will appear in the list on the right window. Click “Exit

 

Congratulations, you have completed the OPOS driver installation and CCO device registration!

 

OPOS Sample Program

After installation is complete, the Visual Studio 2008 C# project is saved in the following folder:

64-bit version Program Files (x86)\StarMicronics\SMJ OPOS Register Scale MG-S\ScaleSample

32-bit version Program Files\StarMicronics\SMJ OPOS Register Scale MG-S\ScaleSample

This sample program can be used to test OPOS operation.
