How to Update Printer Firmware Using the Star Quick Setup Utility

Introduction

This application note provides instructions on how to update the firmware of a Star Micronics printer using the Star Quick Setup Utility application.

Supported Printers: mC-Label Series, mC-Print Series, mPOP, TSP100III, TSP100IV
Supported Interfaces: Bluetooth, Ethernet (LAN), USB, Wi-Fi
Supported Environments: Android, iOS


Do not power the printer off or close the Star Quick Setup Utility application during the update process, which may take up to 20+ minutes. When the process is complete, the device will print a confirmation sheet indicating the new firmware version.

 

Before you begin

Firmware updates are typically only required to resolve specific issues and are not recommended unless indicated and consult However, if a manual firmware update is requested, this article outlines the correct procedure to follow.

Important! Download and install the Star Quick Setup Utility application from the App/Google Play Store

Note: If you have multiple printers, perform a self-test to identify the IP Address or Bluetooth name. Please refer to the following article for guidance:

1. Open the app and tap “Selected Printer”.

2. If prompted, allow the app to use Bluetooth and find devices over the network. Select the printer and confirm by tapping “Yes“.

Bluetooth: BD Name
LAN/Wi-Fi: IP Address

               

 

3. In the menu choose “Printer Settings”. Scroll to the bottom of the menu and tap “Firmware Update”.

Note: If there is no new firmware available, the display will indicate that the printer is up-to-date. 

              

 

4. Select the available firmware file and tap “Update”. Confirm the update by tapping “OK”.

              

 

5. During the update process, do not power off the printer or navigate to a different tab or app on your device. When the update is complete, tap “OK” to exit the menu.


Note: The update process may take up to 20+ minutes. During this time, refrain from interrupting the process by powering the printer off or closing the Star Quick Setup Utility application.
