You are here:

Introduction:

This application note explains how to install a Star Desktop USB Printer using the StarPRNT Intelligence Driver/Configuration Utility package. While these instructions were written using the TSP650II as an example, this document suffices for the models shown below.

Supported Printers: FVP10, TSP650, TSP650II, TSP700II, TSP800II, SP700, SP500, TUP500

Supported Interfaces: USB, Powered USB

Supported Environments: Windows 10 (32/64-bit), Windows 8 (32/64-bit) Windows 7 (32/64-bit), Windows Vista (32/64- bit), Windows XP

StarPRNT Installation

Insert the CD into the CDROM drive or click “Autorun.exe” in the main directory to execute the installer. If the CD was misplaced, the driver can be downloaded directly from the Star Global Support Site. Simply select thermal, impact or open frame kiosk whichever corresponds to your printer type from the cascading menu options, then select your printer model, USB, and Windows.

Click Install

Click “I AGREE” and click “NEXT”.

Click “Next”.

Check “I accept the terms in the License Agreement” and click “Next”.

Click “Typical”.

Click “Install”.

The installer completes the installation of StarPRNT Intelligence.

Click “Finish”.

USB Printer Installation

Connect the printer to the PC and turn the power ON. StarPRNT should have been installed at this time.

Once connected a bubble reading “Installing device driver software” appears in the lower right corner. Click on it

Click “Skip obtaining driver from Windows Update”. This prevents Windows from slowing down installation by searching for the driver online; instead, it will locate the driver locally in the StarPRNT directory.

Click “Yes”

A pop-up message confirms when the printer has been successfully installed

Printer listed under Unspecified

On the “Devices and Printers” screen, right-click anywhere on blank white area and a menu will appear. Click on Device Manager

Under Other devices the printer will be listed there. Right-click on the printer name and select Update Driver Software

A new window will appear, so please click on: Search automatically for updated driver software. Proceed to step 10

NOTE: If you have not installed the driver software from section 1, you can proceed to step 10. If it does work, the printer is installed and ready to print. You can also proceed to section 3 to setup the printer in the StarPRNT utility but this is not necessary

Click Browse my computer for driver software.

Browse to TSP650IICD or the downloaded file, select Windows folder, then select Printer Driver and click OK.

Click OK to begin Installation

It will confirm that, “Windows has successfully updated your driver software” then click Close.

Congratulations! Your Star TSP650II USB printer is installed and ready to Print.
