Resolving USB printer issues related to June 2021 Windows Updates

The Windows 10 June 8th, 2021 updates listed below are being reported to cause printing problems with USB printers and may also cause some cash drawer to not close. Star Micronics is actively looking into this matter and directly working with Microsoft for prompt resolution.
At this moment, the fastest recommendation to address this issue is to uninstall the updates/patches corresponding to your version of Windows until a final solution is provided. We have prepared a help-center article for anyone affected by this issue describing how to easily uninstall Windows updates manually. Click HERE to access it. Depending on your setup, this may require admin privileges.

All currently known options for addressing these Windows 10 updates issues are:
- Change printer queue access permissions space
- Create printer queue on local user account.
- Switch to local user account signed in as an administrator.
- Uninstall the applicable windows updates.
** NOTE ** All methods require administrator login or password. Please contact your administrator.
The issues occurs under the following conditions:
- USB Printers
- Printer queue created as Administrator and used as Non-administrator.
- Windows OS with the following patches (distributed June 8th) applied.

Identified behavior.
- For TSP100 series (TSP100IIIU, TSP100IIU+, TSP100IIIU (ECO), TSP100GT, TSP100U)
- The printer cannot print.
- Printer Status (e.g., cover opening) cannot be obtained.
- Printer connected Cash Drawer repeats opening operation.
- USB printers other than TSP100 series
- Printer Status (e.g., cover opening) cannot be obtained.
* The described issues do not occur with LAN/ WLAN / Bluetooth printers and is not impacted by the printer’s firmware of software versions.
While it is recommended to keep Windows 10 up to date to ensure it has the latest protections and features, best practices also include contacting your POS or Online Order software company to confirm this will not adversely affect the software or peripherals’ operation, including the Star products they support.
