Weights and Measures Information – Georgia
Introduction
This article provides information for using and maintaining an NTEP-certified scale for commercial applications in the state of Georgia, including registration, installation, calibration, inspection and maintenance requirements.

Registration
Georgia follows the requirements of NIST Handbook 44, along with applicable state laws and regulations.
Commercial scales used in Georgia must be inspected and approved by GDA before being used commercially.
Commercial scales must have a valid NTEP Certificate of Conformance and meet applicable requirements of NIST Handbook 44.
Calibration
A licensed scale mechanic employed by a licensed scale service company is required to install and calibrate the scale before it is used commercially.
The scale mechanic must report each commercial scale installed, repaired, adjusted or returned to service to GDA within 24 hours.
Once placed into service, the scale is subject to official inspection and approval by GDA.
Maintenance
Have the scale regularly serviced and calibrated to maintain accuracy.
Commercial scales are subject to inspection and testing by GDA to verify accuracy and compliance.
Scales that fail inspection may be removed from service until corrected and may be subject to enforcement action.
