Registration

Registration must be completed with the Department of Weights & Measures

 Any weighing device not covered by a certificate of conformance from such agency shall not be used commercially in this state.

Calibration

The state of Mississippi follows the rules and regulations of NIST Handbook 44 (2018 Edition)

A state certified Service Company is needed to properly install and calibrate the NTEP scale.

Calibration should be done before an inspector from Weights & Measures comes to seal the scale.

Maintenance

It is recommended to have the scale recalibrated once a year to ensure accuracy

At random an officer from Weights & Measures will visit to inspect the scale

If the scale fails inspection the business is subject to fine.
