Weights and Measures Information – Nevada
Introduction
This article provides information for using and maintaining an NTEP-certified scale for commercial applications in the state of Nevada, including registration, installation, calibration, inspection and maintenance requirements.

Registration
Nevada follows the requirements of NIST Handbook 44, along with applicable state laws and regulations.
All weighing and measuring devices used commercially in Nevada must be licensed with the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), Division of Measurement Standards.
Commercial scales installed in Nevada must meet applicable state requirements.
Calibration
Nevada Registered Service Agencies (RSA) and a registered service agent is required to install and calibrate the scale before it is used commercially.
After installing, repairing or adjusting a commercial scale, the service provider must notify the State Sealer within 24 hours and submit a Placed in Service Report (PISR) within five days.
The report certifies that the device meets applicable requirements, including NIST Handbook 44 requirements, and identifies the NTEP Certificate of Conformance for the device.
Maintenance
Have the scale regularly serviced and calibrated to maintain accuracy.
Commercial scales are subject to inspection by the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), Division of Measurement Standards, Weights & Measures to verify accuracy and compliance.
Scales that fail inspection may be removed from service until corrected and may be subject to enforcement action.
