Registration
You must first contact New Jersey’s Weights and Measures Office (732) 815-4840, and notify them that you have purchased a new scale for your business.
The department will need the following information located on the back of your scale.
- Make (Star Micronics)
- Model (mG-S322, mG-S1501, or mG-S8200) Check your scale to confirm
- Serial Number, Located on the back of your scale.
The department will charge you a fee for registering with the state.
The State will visit your store yearly to test your scale and recertify it each year.
Calibration
New Jersey law requires a licensed repair/installation company to install and calibrate your new mG-Scale.
After proper calibration, NJ requires the scale to be lead & wire sealed, your service company should provide this service.
The service company will need the Certificate of Conformance for the scale, click here for the document.
They will provide the certificate and the necessary paperwork to the office of Weights & Measures.
Maintenance
It is recommended to perform regular maintenance on your scale. Meaning that you can either purchase OIML F Class weights to calibrate the scale yourself or have a certified company come to your store and recalibrate.
The office of Weights and Measures will visit your location at random to test your scale.
*If your scale fails you will be fined heavily by the state*
