How to Install a Star Micronics Printer on Chromebook

Introduction

This application note provides instructions for installing a Star Micronics Desktop Printer on a Chromebook using ChromeOS.

Supported Printers: Star Micronics Desktop Printers
Supported Interfaces: Ethernet, USB, Wi-Fi
Supported Environments: ChromeOS

Important! Ethernet (LAN), USB or Wi-Fi printers are installed using drivers found natively on ChromeOS.

Note: Currently, Chromebooks do not support Bluetooth printing.

1. Turn on your Chromebook and sign in. Connect your printer to the Chromebook via the USB cable.

2. Select the time/battery field located in the bottom right of the Chromebook screen. Select Settings.

3. Select Device.

4. Select Print.

5. Select Other available printers.

6. Find your printer and click “Save”.

7. Under Your saved printers, check that your printer appears.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed a USB printer on ChromeOS.

Note: Connect the Star printer to the network and perform a self-test to get the IP Address.
How to Perform a Hardware Self-Test on Star Printers

1. Turn on the Chromebook and sign in. Connect the Chromebook to the same network as the printer.

2. Select the time/battery field located in the bottom right of the Chromebook screen. Select Settings.

3. Select Device.

4. Select Print.

5. Select Other available printers.

6. Select Add printer manually.

7. Fill out the following fields and click “Add”:

Name: Give the printer a name
IP Address: Can be found on the printer’s self-test
Protocol: AppSocket (TCP/IP) (required)

8. Under Advanced printer configuration fill out the following fields and click “Add”:

Manufacturer: Star
Model: Select the model

9. Under Your saved printers, check that your printer appears.
