How to Configure Receipt Scaling for the TSP800II and TSP700II
Introduction
This application note provides instructions for configuring receipt scaling for the TSP700II and TSP800II. Receipt scaling lets you reduce or enlarge print output from 20 to 200 percent in the Star printer driver, so you can fit content designed for larger paper sizes onto smaller receipt media without changing your POS software.
Supported Printers: TSP800II, TSP700II
Supported Environments: Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7
Tools Needed: StarPRNT Configuration Utility (Included in the StarPRNT Intelligence Driver installation)
Before You Begin
- Ensure that the printer is installed, configured and working on the Windows device.
- Confirm you are using a supported printer model, TSP700II or TSP800II.
- Confirm you are on a supported Windows version, Windows 7 through Windows 11.
- Ensure the StarPRNT Intelligence Driver has been installed and the printer configured for Windows.
- Review limitations before deploying to production.
Note: These instructions were written using Windows 11. If you are using an earlier version of Windows some steps may differ.
What is Receipt Scaling?
Receipt Scaling allows the Star printer driver to enlarge or reduce printed output from 20% to 200% without requiring changes to your POS software. This feature can reduce larger documents to fit receipt paper or enlarge small receipts to improve readability.
Configure Receipt Scaling
1. Click the Start
button and select Settings
.

2. Navigate to Bluetooth & devices then Printers & scanners.

3. Select the printer’s name from the list then click Printer Properties.

4. Select the “Device Settings” tab and expand “Scaling”.

5. Enter a value from 20 to 200 or use the up/down arrows.
- 20-99%: Reduces the receipt size
- 100%: Uses default receipt size
- 101-200%: Increases the receipt size

6. After setting the percent, click the “Apply” button to save the settings.

Examples
Scale Down
The example below illustrates when a decrease in print size might be useful. The original print was formatted as an A4 document. This is the result of decreasing Scaling to 60%.

Scale Up
The example below illustrates when an increase in print size might be useful. The original print was formatted as an 80mm document. This is the result of increasing Scaling to 130%.

Congratulations! You have successfully scaled your receipt or invoice size.
Limitations
Keep the following limitations in mind when using the scaling feature.
Barcodes
Barcodes are not scaled to preserve print quality and ensure they remain scannable. If a barcode is included in the portion of the receipt being scaled, Star recommends adjusting the barcode size within your POS software instead of using the printer’s scaling feature.

Logos
NV Logos
NV (Non-Volatile) logos are stored in the printer’s memory and are printed directly by the printer, bypassing the printer driver. Because of this, NV logos are not affected by scaling and will remain at their original size.
If you use NV logos, Star recommends resizing the logo before storing it in the printer.
Soft Logos
Soft logos are sent to the printer as part of the print data and passed through the printer driver. As a result, they are automatically scaled along with the rest of the receipt.
Whenever possible, Star recommends using soft logos instead of legacy NV logos when scaling receipts.
