How to Install a Kiosk Printer on Windows
Introduction
This application note explains how to install a Kiosk printer using the StarPRNT Intelligence for Kiosk Driver and Configuration Utility package.
Supported Printers: SK1 series, SK5 series
Supported Interfaces: Ethernet (LAN), Serial, USB
Supported Environments: Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7
Before You Begin
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A supported Star Micronics kiosk printer.
- A Windows computer.
- The cable needed to connect the printer (Ethernet, USB or Serial).
- If you are using USB, do not connect the printer until after the driver has been installed.
Important: Setting up a kiosk printer involves two steps:
- Install the StarPRNT Intelligence for Kiosk driver.
- Add the printer to Windows.
If you’ve already installed the driver, skip to Section 2, Add the Printer to Windows.
1. Install StarPRNT Intelligence for Kiosk Driver
The most current version of the StarPRNT Intelligence for Kiosk driver can be found HERE
1. Click “Download” on either the Full or EXE version. Select “I Agree” and click “Download”.
Note: The Full driver download includes the printer/software manuals while the EXE version does not. For this application note, the Full version is used.

2. Locate the downloaded zip folder (commonly located in the Downloads folder). Right-click on the zip folder and select “Extract All…”.
Note: If the EXE file was downloaded, simply double-click the application to start the installation process and skip to Step 5.

3. Open the newly extracted folder and navigate to the “setup” folder. Double-click on the Setup application.



4. Allow the app to make changes to your device and click “Next”.

5. Select “I Accept” and click “Next”.

6. Click “Typical”.

7. Click “Install”.

8. The installer completes the installation.

9. Click “Finish”.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed the StarPRNT Intelligence for Kiosk driver on Windows.
2. Add the Printer to Windows
Ethernet (SK5 Series Only)
1. Determine the printer’s IP Address by performing a self-test and identifying the IP Address under the Current IP Parameters Section. Use the steps in the following article to do so.

2. Click the Windows/Start Menu icon and open Printer Utility Kiosk(SK Series).

3. Select the model printer and click Next.

4. Select the “Ethernet” interface and click Search Network.

Note: If no printer was found, manually enter the printer’s IP Address as found on the self-test in the search field and click Done.

5. Highlight the found printer and click Done.

6. Enter a name for the printer and click OK.

7. A notification appears to create a printer queue. Click OK.

8. Open Windows Printer Queue Management to create a printer queue.

9. Click Install Driver.

10. Click Add.

11. Confirm the printer’s name is correct. Click OK.
Note: If a different name was used to describe the printer, manually type that name in this section.

12. Click Test Print to print a test receipt.

13. If you intend to add multiple printers, return to the Utility Functions menu and click Create New to repeat the process to add another printer.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed the Kiosk Ethernet printer on Windows.
USB
1. Once the driver has been installed, make sure the printer is turned on and simply plug the printer into an open USB port on the Windows Device and the PnP (Plug-n-Play) feature will automatically add the printer. To perform a test print click the Windows/Start Menu
icon and open Settings
.

2. Click “Bluetooth & devices” and select “Printers & scanners”.

3. Select the printer from list.

4. Select “Print test page”.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed the Kiosk USB printer to Windows.
Serial
1. Click the Windows/Start Menu
icon and open Printer Utility Kiosk(SK Series).

2. Select the model printer and click Next.

3. Select the “Serial” interface. Select the appropriate COM# and click Done.
Note: The correct COM port depends on how many serial ports are available on the PC. If only one serial port is detected, the correct COM port will be selected automatically. If multiple serial ports are detected, each COM port will need to be tested to identify the correct one.

4. Enter a name for the printer and click OK.

5. A notification appears to create a printer queue. Click OK.

6. Open Windows Printer Queue Management to create a printer queue.

7. Click Install Driver.

8. Click Add.

9. Confirm the printer’s name is correct. Click OK.
Note: If a different name was used to describe the printer, manually type that name in this section.

10. Click Test Print to print a test receipt.

11. If you intend to add multiple printers, return to the Utility Functions menu and click Create New to repeat the process to add another printer.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed the Kiosk Serial printer on Windows.
