How to Setup an MCW10 (Wireless LAN Unit)

This application note provides instructions for setting up an MCW10 with the Star Quick Setup Utility on Android and iOS.

Supported Printers: mC-Label Series, mC-Print Series, TSP100IIILAN, TSP100IV-UE
Supported Interfaces: LAN
Supported Environments: Android, iOS

 

Before you begin

The MCW10 provides a wireless connection not only to a Star printer, but also to any network-capable third-party devices such as payment terminals. Supporting up to two connected devices simultaneously, the MCW10 enables flexible network integration in environments where Ethernet wiring may be limited or unavailable.

Connect the MCW10

1. Use the provided Ethernet (LAN) and USB cables to connect the printer and Wireless LAN Unit.

Note: When using the MCP21LB/LBNH or MCP31L/LB/LNH/LBNH, connect to the USB-A port (iPad 2.4A) at the position shown in the figure below.

2. *Optional* Use the provided mounting double-sided tape and attach this product to a suitable position.

3. *Optional* Remove the tape backing paper and attach the unit to a suitable position. Be very careful with this step as the adhesive is very strong.

Note: When installing, be careful to route the connected LAN cable and USB cable so that they are not trapped behind the unit.

4. Power the printer ON, wait for solid Power and LAN 1 Status lights.

 

Setup the MCW10

Note: When prompted, grant the app permission to access your location and communicate with devices on the network.

1. Open the Star Quick Setup Utility application and tap Start Guide (Initial Settings).

2. Tap Use Wireless LAN and select “MCW10”.

3. Tap Next. Confirm that the MCW10 ethernet cable is connected to the back of the printer and tap Next.

4. Confirm that the MCW10 USB cable is connected to the back of the printer and tap Next. Confirm the power cable is connected and tap Next.

5. Tap “Wireless LAN Unit setup”.

6. Enter the required details and tap Apply. Confirm by tapping Yes.

SSID: Your Wi-Fi name (case sensitive)
Password: Your Wi-Fi password (case sensitive)

7. After communicating with the network, allow the app to join the Wi-Fi network by tapping Join.

Note: You may be prompted to allow the app to find devices over the network. Tap Allow. If the setup process does not continue, restart from step 1.

8. After applying the network settings, complete the setup by tapping Yes.

9. Select the printer and confirm by tapping Yes.

10. In the main menu choose Printer Operation Check and tap Printer Test.

11. The app confirms the action was successful.

Congratulations! You successfully set up the MCW10 to your Wi-Fi.
