Overview of the StarIO SDK

An SDK (Software Development Kit) is a set of tools that helps developers integrate third-party products into their own applications more easily.

Star’s SDK includes two key components that speed up development: StarIO and sample code.

StarIO acts as a communication layer between the application and the printer. It simplifies sending print jobs and receiving printer status information, reducing development time and effort. Many applications rely on printer status updates—such as paper out, cover open, or printer offline—to notify users of issues and confirm whether a print job was successful or failed. StarIO makes handling these status communications straightforward and efficient.

StarIO is available for Android, iOS, Windows, Linux and macOS, and supports multiple programming languages, including C#, VB.NET, Java, Objective-C, C++ and VB6.

The SDK also includes print sample code that demonstrates how to design and customize receipts using Star’s commands. These examples, taken directly from the Programming Manual, show how to print logos, format text (bold, underline, italics), and more. Developers can copy and paste the sample code directly into their applications. Each example also references the corresponding page in the Programming Manual, making it easy to understand and further customize the commands as needed.
