How to setup USB ID Tool for Star Printers
Introduction
How to configure a USB interfaced printer by installing a USB serial number. This has the advantage that should the printer be connected to another USB port or to a hub connected to a computer, another driver will not be added.
Supported Printers: TSP100, TSP800, TSP700, TSP600
Supported Interfaces: USB
Supported Environments: Windows OS
Ensure that the Printer driver is installed and that you are able to print to the printer
Obtain the USB Serial Number utility from the Star Micronics support department.
Navigate to the “ports” tab in the “printer properties”. Disable bidirectional printing (if checked).
Open the USB Serial Number tool and select “Printer”
Note: If the printer is in Vendor class, select “port” and choose the appropriate COM port assigned to the printer.
Choose the correct printer.
Enable the USB Serial Number and assign a serial number of your choice. (8 characters using a combination of text and numbers if necessary)
Click “OK” to assign the serial number to the printer.
Once the process is completed, power OFF the printer and close the utility.
NOTE: Once the printer is repowered and connected to a computer, it will install as normal and if you ever change the printer to a different port, the printer will not be reinstalled.
